Actual estimates, partly based on research in the US and the UK, say that at least 10% to 25% of all people might have this untreated chronic illness caused by a vitamin B12 deficiency. In the Netherlands, this would be between 1.6 and 4 million people. From the book ‘Could it be B12? "We are talking about an epidemic of a cruel disorder that is almost always overlooked, with often disastrous consequences for millions of patients".
It is estimated that this disease occurs in at least 20% of all people over sixty and about 60% of all geriatric patients (elderly in special homes that need extra care). In 2 to 5% of all children (this means tens of thousands of children!!), there is a serious suspicion of a vitamin B12 deficiency.
